A Lagos High Court has delivered judgment in a complex land dispute affecting approximately 5,000 families in the Lekki corridor, ruling that a 2019 government acquisition of land for infrastructure development was procedurally invalid.
Justice Olabisi Akinlade ordered the Lagos State government to either pay fair market value compensation within six months or revert the land to community ownership.
The government has indicated it will appeal, arguing that the public interest justification was overwhelming.
Affected community representatives described the ruling as a victory for ordinary Lagosians.
