A Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced a drug cartel leader to 25 years imprisonment on six counts of drug trafficking, conspiracy and money laundering in what NDLEA described as its most significant prosecution in a decade.

The defendant was arrested at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in a sting operation involving INTERPOL.

Forensic evidence traced over $47 million in illicit drug proceeds through a network of real estate investments and foreign exchange businesses.

NDLEA Chairman Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa said the sentence sent a powerful message that Nigeria would not tolerate drug trafficking at any scale.
