Lagos-based payment infrastructure company Interswitch has achieved unicorn status for the second time after a fresh investment round valued the company at $1.5 billion.
The investment led by the International Finance Corporation will be used to expand Interswitch’s operations across East and Southern Africa.
Founder and CEO Mitchell Elegbe said Interswitch’s journey from a startup in 2002 to a multi-billion dollar company was proof that Nigerian technology companies could compete at the highest global level.
Interswitch processes over 500 million transactions annually across its network of 31 African countries.
