MTN Nigeria and Airtel Nigeria have jointly announced that 5G network coverage has been extended to 25 cities across Nigeria, six months ahead of the rollout schedule agreed with the Nigerian Communications Commission.
The accelerated rollout was made possible by a government decision to make additional spectrum available at reduced fees.
NCC Executive Vice Chairman Aminu Maida said 5G coverage reaching 25 cities meant approximately 40 million Nigerians could now access fifth-generation network speeds.
The network is enabling new applications in telemedicine, precision agriculture, smart manufacturing and autonomous vehicles.
