Senegal’s newly elected government has launched the most ambitious anti-corruption campaign in the country’s history, establishing a special anti-corruption court with powers to investigate and prosecute senior officials.
President Bassirou Diomaye Faye said no one would be above the law and that all government contracts awarded in the past decade would be subject to review.
The attorney general’s office has already opened 47 preliminary investigations into alleged corruption in the petroleum, mining and construction sectors.
Transparency International described Senegal’s move as the most significant institutional anti-corruption reform in West Africa in a generation.
