A Nollywood production has become the first Nigerian film in history to gross $100 million at the global box office, a milestone that industry leaders described as a watershed moment for African cinema.
The film, a historical epic set during the Benin Kingdom’s resistance to British colonialism, opened in 47 countries simultaneously.
Director Kunle Afolayan said the achievement reflected investment in production quality, world-class visual effects and authentic storytelling.
Netflix, which co-produced the film, reported it as the most-watched non-English language film on the platform in its opening month.
