The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has achieved full production capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, allowing Nigeria to significantly reduce its dependence on imported petroleum products for the first time in decades.
The facility is now producing sufficient petrol, diesel, jet fuel and kerosene to meet approximately 90 percent of domestic demand.
Fuel import costs have fallen by 60 percent since the facility reached commercial production, saving Nigeria an estimated $3.2 billion per quarter in foreign exchange.
Aliko Dangote said the refinery was also exploring export opportunities to West African neighbours, with preliminary agreements signed with Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire and Senegal.
