Access Bank has completed its acquisition of National Bank of Kenya, creating one of the largest banking groups on the continent and giving the Nigerian lender a significant foothold in East Africa.
The deal, valued at approximately $120 million, gives Access Bank control of 86 branches and 1.2 million customers in Kenya.
Access Bank Group CEO Roosevelt Ogbonna said the East African market represented a strategic priority given its young, digitally connected population.
The acquisition requires final regulatory approval from the Central Bank of Kenya, which is expected within 60 days.
