Despite the federal government releasing N1.8 trillion to Nigerian universities over the past decade, a Granite News investigation has found that the physical infrastructure of Nigerian universities has continued to deteriorate.
Our investigation, which visited 18 federal universities and analysed financial returns submitted to the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, found systematic misappropriation at multiple levels.
We documented cases of contractors being paid for buildings never built, equipment purchased at ten times market value, and bursary allocations used to fund activities unrelated to student welfare.
Six vice chancellors are named in our findings, which we submitted to the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission before publication.
