Inside the Examination Malpractice Industry Worth Billions to Criminal Networks

SHARE

Nigeria’s examination system has been infiltrated by sophisticated criminal networks generating billions annually from selling examination questions, placing impersonators in halls and producing forged certificates.

A Granite News undercover investigation found that advance copies of WAEC examination papers were available for purchase in Lagos, Kano and Abuja up to 48 hours before the examinations.

Our reporters purchased what appeared to be genuine examination papers for three subjects and immediately forwarded them to WAEC. The papers were confirmed to be authentic by a senior official.

The investigation also documented impersonation rings operating in at least six states, charging between N50,000 and N250,000 to sit examinations on behalf of students.
