Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have dismantled an international car theft syndicate stealing luxury vehicles and smuggling them to neighbouring countries through unofficial border crossings.
Commissioner of Police Adegoke Fayoade said 31 suspects were arrested in coordinated raids, with 94 stolen vehicles recovered valued at approximately N2.8 billion.
The syndicate used sophisticated electronic jamming devices to override vehicle immobilisers and forged documentation to transfer ownership.
INTERPOL has been notified and is assisting with tracing vehicles already exported from Nigeria.
