National Assembly Begins Public Hearing on Proposed Tax Reform Bills

The National Assembly Joint Finance Committee has commenced public hearings on four controversial tax reform bills that propose the most sweeping changes to Nigeria’s tax system in two decades.

The bills seek to consolidate 40 different taxes into eight broad categories, create a single federal revenue authority, and introduce a digital services tax targeting multinational technology companies operating in Nigeria.

Business groups have largely welcomed the simplification measures but raised concerns about the proposed corporate tax rate increase for large companies.

The hearings are expected to run for three weeks before the committee consolidates submissions and presents recommendations to the full chamber.
